Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This privacy policy explains how OurComic ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares your personal data when you visit our-comic.com, order a comic, use our script web app or contact us (together, the "Services"). "You" means anyone whose personal data we process: customers, website visitors and anyone else we receive information about.
Who we are
OurComic, Jenny Tanghestraat 6 bus 302, 9050 Gent, Belgium. VAT BE 1013.024.646. Email: contact@our-comic.com.
For the purposes of data protection law, and unless we say otherwise, we are the controller of your personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when our practices change or for legal or regulatory reasons. We will publish the new version on this page, change the "Last updated" date and take any other steps the law requires.
What personal data we collect
"Personal data" means any information that identifies you, relates to you or can be linked to you. What we collect depends on how you use our Services.
Information you give us
- Contact details: your name, address, phone number and email address.
- Order details: billing and shipping address, payment confirmation, email address and phone number.
- Your story and characters: the story, names, descriptions and any photos you give us to make your comic, and the changes you make to your script in our web app. Your story may include information about other people. Please only share it, and especially photos of other people, if you are allowed to.
- Account details: if you create an account, your login details and the information used to keep your account secure.
- Customer support: the information you include when you email or message us.
Some features need certain information. You can choose not to give it, but you may then not be able to use those features.
Information we collect automatically
We may automatically collect information about how you use the Services ("Usage Data"), using cookies, pixels and similar technologies ("Cookies"). This may include device and browser information, information about your network connection, your IP address and how you interact with our website and emails.
Information from third parties
- Companies that run our website and Services, such as Shopify.
- Our payment providers, who collect payment details (such as card or bank details and billing address) to process your payment.
- Advertising and analytics partners. When you visit our website, open or click our emails or see our ads, we or our partners may collect information using pixels, web beacons, software development kits, third-party libraries and cookies.
We treat any information we receive from third parties in line with this policy.
How we use your personal data
- Making and delivering your comic. To process your payment, write your script, draw, print and ship your comic, send you messages about your order (script, preview, shipping), manage your account and handle cancellations and refunds. We do this to perform our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Shopify may also match your account with other Shopify services you choose to use. In that case Shopify processes your information under its own privacy policy.
- Your story and photos. We use your story, characters and photos to create your script and your drawing, and to help you with your order. To do this we work with technology providers, including AI service providers, that process this content on our behalf and only for this purpose.
- Marketing and advertising. To send you marketing by email, text message or post and to show you ads on our website and other websites. We base this on our legitimate interest in selling our products (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), or on your consent where the law requires it. You can opt out at any time.
- Security and fraud prevention. To detect, investigate and act on possible fraud or other illegal or harmful activity, based on our legitimate interest in keeping our Services safe (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you have an account, keep your login details private and contact us straight away if you think your account has been compromised.
- Customer support and improving our Services. To answer your questions and improve our Services, based on our legitimate interest in serving you well (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Legal obligations. To meet our legal duties, such as keeping accounting and tax records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR), to enforce our terms of service and to protect our rights and those of our customers and others.
Cookies
We use Cookies to run and improve our website (for example to remember your choices), to measure how people use it and to tailor ads on our website and other websites. Some Cookies are placed by third parties, such as our advertising and analytics partners. For the Cookies Shopify uses to run our store, see shopify.com/legal/cookies.
Most browsers accept Cookies by default. You can remove or block them in your browser settings. Blocking Cookies may stop some parts of our website from working properly, and may not fully stop us from sharing information with partners such as advertising partners.
Who we share your personal data with
- Service providers who work on our behalf, for example for hosting and IT, payments, creating your script and drawing (including AI service providers), printing and framing, shipping, email, customer support and analytics.
- Business and marketing partners, such as Meta, Google and TikTok, to provide services and show you ads. They use your information under their own privacy notices.
- Third parties you ask us to share with, or agree to, for example a carrier to deliver your comic, or when you use social media features.
- Others where needed for a business transaction such as a merger or bankruptcy, to meet a legal obligation (for example a court order), to enforce our terms of service, or to protect our Services, our rights and the rights of our customers and others.
For the purposes above, we share these categories of personal data:
- Identifiers, such as contact details and certain order and account information.
- Commercial information, such as order details, your story, characters and photos, and customer support information.
- Internet activity, such as Usage Data.
- Location data, such as a location based on your IP address.
The recipients are service providers (such as hosting, payment, AI, printing, fulfilment, customer support and analytics providers) and business and marketing partners.
We do not use or share sensitive personal data without your consent, and never to infer characteristics about you. Where you consent, we share personal data for advertising and marketing.
Third-party websites and links
Our website may link to websites and platforms run by others. We are not responsible for their privacy or security practices, or for the accuracy of their content. Please read their own policies. Information you share in public places, such as social networks, may be visible to others. A link does not mean we endorse that website.
Children
Our Services are not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children as customers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it. We do not knowingly "sell" or "share" (as defined in applicable law) personal data of people under 16.
Security and retention
We take appropriate measures to protect your personal data, but no system is perfectly secure, and information may not be secure while it is sent to us. Please do not send sensitive information through insecure channels.
We keep your personal data only as long as we need it: to make and deliver your comic, run your account, help you, meet legal obligations (such as accounting and tax rules), resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the rights below. These rights are not absolute and may apply only in certain cases. Where the law allows, we may decline a request.
- Access: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you and how we use and share it.
- Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate personal data.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your personal data.
- Portability: receive your personal data and ask us to transfer it to someone else, in certain cases.
- Restriction and objection: ask us to limit or stop processing your personal data, including processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising: ask us not to "sell" or "share" your personal data or use it for targeted advertising, as defined in applicable law. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it, where applicable, as a request to opt out for that browser and device.
- Withdraw consent: where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
- Appeal: if we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.
- Marketing emails: unsubscribe at any time with the link in our emails. We will still send you emails about your orders and account.
To use these rights, email us at contact@our-comic.com. We will not treat you differently for using them. We may need to verify your identity first, for example with your email address or account details. You may appoint someone to make a request for you. We will then ask for proof that you authorised them and may ask you to confirm your identity with us. We will respond within the time the law requires.
Complaints
If you have a complaint about how we handle your personal data, please contact us first. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can appeal our decision or lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Belgium that is the Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be). You can also contact the authority in the country where you live.
International transfers
We and our service providers may store and process your personal data outside the country where you live. If we transfer personal data outside Europe, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK equivalent), unless the country has been found to offer an adequate level of protection.
